Microstructure and surface texture driven improvement in in-vitro response of laser surface processed AZ31B magnesium alloy

The present work explored effects of laser surface melting on microstructure and topography evolution in AZ31B magnesium alloy. Thermokinetic experienced by the material during were simulated using a multiphysics finite element model. Microstructure phase examined scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, back scatter diffraction. Surface was evaluated white light interferometry. interaction melted samples with body fluid monitored contact angle measurements immersion studies up to 7 days. Laser led formation refined predominantly basal crystallographic texture. Concurrently, amount ? (Mg17Al12) increased an increase fluence. preferentially decorated cell boundaries. In terms topography, became progressively rougher As result, upon fluid, showed improved wettability, corrosion resistance, precipitation mineral having composition closer hydroxyapatite bone compared untreated sample.
